Children should be screened regularly for developmental delays by qualified practitioners. ASD has been diagnosed as young as 18 months, but screening should be conducted even prior to that by your healthcare professional. ASD is most commonly diagnosed between 24 months and six years of age.
A qualified practitioner normally conducts the diagnosis and if diagnosed may provide a written order for ABA therapy. Qualified practitioners can include Child Psychologists, Child Pediatricians, and Child Neurologists.

Act 62 in Pennsylvania requires private insurance companies to cover treatment of ASD for children with a valid diagnosis. Medicaid also provides coverage. Most states do provide coverage now.
